Materials

Wood planks come in many different thicknesses and lengths. Longer planks cost more than your typical four-foot lengths. They require different workmanship and delivery costs will fluctuate. Thicker flooring can also help to bring up the overall cost. Delivery is also a factor as it will weigh more affecting this.

Engineered vs Real Hardwood

Real hardwood is more expensive compared to engineered flooring. Engineered flooring contains less hardwood as it uses a thin sheet of veneer over its base. Real hardwood is made of one solid piece of hardwood.

The Shape and Size of the Room

Obviously, a larger room will involve more material and installation time compared to a smaller one. The same has to do with the shape of the room. A regular square or rectangle room will require less cutting and save time on installation. When a lot of special cuts need to be made this can drive up labor costs influencing the cost of the flooring.

Finish

Pre-finished wood flooring is more expensive in the material cost, but it makes up for it in the end. Once the flooring is installed, it’s done, there is nothing else left to do. When they are finished on-site, there is much more work involved after the wood is installed. This adds to the overall installation time, therefore, affecting the cost.
